Commitment: What If You Feel Like Giving Up?

“When you feel like giving up...Don't.” says Winston Churchill. “Commitment is the enemy of resistance, for it is the serious promise to press on, to get up, no matter how many times you are knocked down.” says David McNally.

“When you feel like giving up...Don't.” says Winston Churchill. The moments when you feel like giving up are the moments that you need to push harder reminding yourself of your commitment in pursuit of something. It is the power of your commitment that gives you the strength to endure all and never give up. I have heard mothers lament over their “impossible” teenagers. Their commitment to their children takes away their option to give up. They say that “This is not a job that I can quit anytime when things get rough and tough.”

According to David McNally, a political science author and professor, “Commitment is the enemy of resistance, for it is the serious promise to press on, to get up, no matter how many times you are knocked down.” Commitment is the ingredient that transforms the promise into reality.

Scarlett O'Hara of Gone With The Wind drew strength from her commitment to have a life of prosperity marked on the day that she vowed “As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.” Commitment is the words that declare your aspirations, and it is, more importantly, the actions that manifest your determination. When you are committed to achieve something, you do whatever it takes to get the best results. You make time when there is none, and you make do with nothing. You find a way to shake off setbacks and accept no excuses to move forward. When you are committed, you accept as your responsibility all the things that need to be done. It is your commitment that sparks you with enthusiasm and fortifies you with determination to work hard. Commitment is what character is made of, and it is the force that makes things happen.

When you feel like giving up, you remember why you are doing what you do. Remember your commitment.
