Valentine's Day: What If We Send Messages of Love?

“Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

We celebrate Valentine's Day every 14th of February. On this day, flowers, candies, gifts and greeting cards are given to loved ones. On this day, messages of love are exchanged.

The history of Valentine's Day is vague and the legends of Saint Valentine vary. There is one legend that touched my heart so. This legend says Saint Valentine was in a prison cell and he was thinking of his small community. With so much love for them, his desire to assure them of his friendship and his love was so great that he picked a bunch of flowers and sent them by a dove. On the flowers' petals, he scribbled this message: “I Love You. I'm your Valentine.” Through the years that followed from that day unto this, folks still send messages of love because a saint in prison reached out through prison bars one day and picked a bunch of flowers and sent them out to say that love can triumph no matter where you are for love is greater than the strongest prison bar.

Nowadays, Valentine's Day has become commercialized. The celebration marks the increase in the sale of flowers, chocolates and Valentine gift items. Let us not forget that Valentine's day is a commemoration of love, not necessarily a romantic one.
What if we send messages of love to as many people as we can on Valentine's Day?
